Today, 616,820 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine produced in Japan have arrived in Vientiane.
This donation by the Government of Japan is expected to help Laos further accelerate the inoculation programmes across the country.
The Government of the Lao PDR has set an ambitious plan of protecting 50 per cent of the total population in the country with COVID-19 vaccines by the end of 2021.
At the hand-over ceremony at Wattay International Airport, Ambassador of Japan to the Lao PDR Takewaka Keizo reaffirmed Japan’s strong commitment to tackle the surge of infections together with the government and people of Laos.
Vice President Pany attended the ceremony and expressed deep appreciation on behalf of the Lao government.
