Occupants told to evacuate as flooding hits Antique resettlement site

SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA: Occupants of the National Housing Authority (NHA) resettlement site in the Municipality of Laua-an are advised to transfer temporarily to a safer place following a flash flood that affected the area on Sunday.

‘I advise the beneficiaries to be on alert whenever there is rain, or better yet, for them to temporarily stay in safer places,’ said Antique provincial board member Karmila Dimamay in an interview on Monday.

Dimamay is a member of the interagency Task Force Lugta created by the provincial government to resolve the housing concern.

Less than 300 families are staying in the relocation center, hit by a flash flood due to the successive rain caused by localized thunderstorms in the past days.

Antique Provincial Housing Affairs and Resettlement Office (PHARO) head Eby Archangel Butiong said they immediately inspected the resettlement site on Monday morning.

‘We learned that the flash flood at the resettlement site was knee-deep, but it had already subsided during our visit,’ But
iong said.

He added that the Task Force Lugta, chaired by Governor Rhodora Cadiao, will have an ocular inspection on Tuesday for a concrete plan to mitigate another flooding in the area.

He said that the box culvert that is being constructed in the area is not yet completed.
