NUNS, Kings’ Montessori gain semis slots in Shakey’s girls volleyball

MANILA: National University-Nazareth School (NUNS) and Kings’ Montessori School have downed separate rivals to reach the semifinal round of the 2024 Shakey’s Girls Volleyball Invitational League.

Diza Berayo finished with 13 attacks, three blocks and two aces for NUNS, which pulled off a 25-6, 25-23, 25-17 victory over Far Eastern University-Diliman in one hour and 21 minutes at the Adamson University Gym on Wednesday.

NUNS, the UAAP Season 86 runner-up, will face the winner between Adamson University and Lyceum of the Philippines University at the Paco Arena on Thursday.

‘Honestly, this 3-0 game, I didn’t expect that. Maybe they don’t expect it either. We know that we are not complete but we also prepared for them during training yesterday,’ said Lady Bullpups head coach Norman Miguel after the match.

NUNS, which had 11 aces, benefitted from FEU-Diliman’s 17 errors to reach the Final Four of the country’s premier grassroots volleyball tournament.

‘That’s really our game plan. The game plan will start on
the service, and then the rest will follow. That’s all, it was effective,’ said Miguel.

Celine Marsh chipped in 14 points, 11 on attacks, while Robielle Silla added 10 points for the Lady Bullpups, who faced a strong challenge in the second set.

Lovely Lopez had 10 points for the Lady Baby Tamaraws, who tied the score at 8-all in the third set before the Lady Bullpups held a 9-2 run to take command en route to victory.

Kings’ Montessori School also advanced after beating Bethel Academy College, 25-17, 25-23, 25-17.

Shahanna Lleses led the Lady Vikings with 18 points while Shane Reterta had 16 points for the Bethelites.

Kings’ Montessori will meet Bacolod Tay Tung, which prevailed over Arellano University, 25-17, 25-21, 25-20, in the other quarterfinal match.

Ana Hermosura scored 14 points for the unbeaten Thunderbolts, who finished third in the inaugural edition.
