LPA off E. Visayas likely to develop into tropical cyclone

A low pressure area (LPA) last tracked 1,000 km east of Eastern Visayas will likely develop into a tropical cyclone, a forecaster said Monday afternoon. “This LPA may head near Northern Luzon, and is likely to develop into a tropical cyclone within 24 to 48 hours,” Aldczar Aurelio of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said. He added that for now, the prevailing weather system is the southwest monsoon affecting the western section of Southern Luzon. This will continue to cause scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Palawan. Flash floods or landslides are possible due to moderate to at times heavy rains, according to PAGASA. The rest of the country continue to experience isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms. Severe thunderstorms may also result in flash floods or landslides. Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas continue to prevail across the archipelago, PAGASA said.
