Manila: A huge part of the country will experience scattered rains and thunderstorms due to a low pressure area (LPA) and the easterlies, the weather bureau said on Thursday. As of 3 a.m., the LPA was spotted 80 kilometers east northeast of Cuyo, Palawan, inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
According to Philippines News Agency, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) stated that the LPA has a slim chance of developing into a tropical cyclone in the next 24 hours. However, it will dampen the Visayas, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, and Zamboanga Peninsula. The easterlies will likewise dampen Caraga and Davao Region. Moderate to heavy rains in the aforementioned areas could result in flash floods or landslides, according to PAGASA.
Meanwhile, the easterlies will also cause isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over the rest of the country. Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas still prevail across the archipelago.
At least 16 areas are forecast to experience heat index levels from 42°C to 44°C. The heat index, or the temperature felt by the human body when relative humidity is factored in with actual air temperature, could peak at 44°C in Dagupan City, Pangasinan, and Sangley Point, Cavite. A 43°C heat index is expected in NAIA, Sinait in Ilocos Sur, Laoag City in Ilocos Norte, ISU in Echague, Isabela, Iba in Zambales, TAU in Camiling, Tarlac, Masbate City in Masbate, and Catarman in Northern Samar.
The heat index could peak at 42°C in Ambulong in Tanauan, Batangas, NAS-UPLB in Los Ba±os, Laguna, Coron in Palawan, Cuyo in Palawan, Daet in Camarines Norte, and Roxas City in Capiz. Under "danger" level conditions, which range from 42°C to 51°C, the public is warned of increased risks of heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke with prolonged exposure.
