Vientiane:Laos officially launched the National Agenda for Rural Development and Poverty Eradication (2027-2030) with goals to improve rural infrastructure, create jobs, and enhance living standards in rural areas.
According to Lao News Agency, the agenda was presented at a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone. The event was attended by deputy prime ministers, ministers, provincial governors, and representatives from various sectors.
Dr. Linkham Douangsavanh, Minister of Agriculture and Environment, outlined the agenda, which aims to transform key Party and State resolutions into actionable strategies. The government plans to lift more than 100,000 families out of poverty and reduce the poverty rate to a single-digit level by 2030. The agenda also targets lifting over 1,000 villages and 25 districts out of poverty, with the establishment of model focal villages in each province.
Priority areas include job creation, rural infrastructure development, social protection, and grassroots administration. The agenda is aligned with the Party-State’s Three Builds policy and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Prime Minister Sonexay emphasized the importance of this national initiative, highlighting it as a collective responsibility involving the political system, armed forces, government agencies, and local authorities. The government will prioritize agricultural modernization, rural infrastructure, human capital development, grassroots administration, and land management.
The Prime Minister’s Office will coordinate the agenda’s implementation, with the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment overseeing monitoring and evaluation. Detailed action plans are to be completed by October 2026 for submission to the National Assembly. Implementation is set to begin in January 2027.
