Laos records 154 new cases of Covid-19

Some 154 new cases of Covid-19 have been recorded nationwide over the past 24 hours including 131 community infections, mostly in Khammuan 58, Savannakhet 22 and Champassak 20, the National Taskforce Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control told a press conference today.

Luang Prabang reported 13 local infections as Vientiane logged nine, Bokeo posted six, Luang Namtha announced two and Saravan reported one.

Imported cases were reported in Savannakhet 10, Vientiane five, Champassak three, Khammuan three and Saravan two.

The new cases have brought the total of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the country to 18,059 including 4,108 active cases and 16 deaths.

Yesterday the government announced the extension of preventive and control measures against Covid-19 through Sep 30.

As of Sep 15, 2021, COVID-19 outbreak situation in the Lao PDR has shown an increasing trend and has been likely to approach level 2 with some provinces – Champassak, Khammuan, Savannakhet and Vientiane likely to reach level 3.

“Although imported cases are declining in these localities, community infections are expanding due to inter-locality travel and activities of organizations and individuals,” said Deputy Minister and Deputy Head of the National Taskforce Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control Thipphakone Chanthavongsa.
