Vientiane:Officials and civil servants from the Law and Justice Committee (LJC) of the National Assembly attended a training workshop focused on Japan’s legislative and judicial practices on September 23, 2026.
According to Lao News Agency, the workshop was co-chaired by Mrs. Thoummaly Vongphachan, Chairperson of the Law and Justice Committee, and Ms. Miyako Kobayashi, Chief Representative of JICA Laos. Key participants included LJC vice chairpersons, Standing Committee members, Mr. Takuro Yamashita, Chief Advisor of the JICA Law Project, along with project experts and team members.
The training aimed to enhance participants’ knowledge and practical understanding of legislative work, aiding the committee in its advisory role to the National Assembly. JICA experts provided insights into Japan’s legislative process, legal interpretation, and statutory rights, stimulating discussions and exchange of practical experiences among attendees.
Mrs. Thoummaly emphasized that the training offered valuable lessons for
officials to apply in their work, thereby improving the committee’s operational efficiency and effectiveness. This initiative is part of efforts to bolster practical cooperation between Laos and Japan, reinforcing their long-standing friendly relations and comprehensive strategic partnership.
In a related development, on September 18, Mr. Takuro Yamashita donated a collection of legal reference books to the National Assembly to aid legislative research and capacity building.
