Bangkok:Vientiane: The Lao national bodybuilding team was warmly welcomed home on September 30 after their exceptional performance at the 58th Asia Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship in Bangkok, Thailand.
According to Lao News Agency, the team returned to Wattay International Airport led by Mr. Khamphaphaivanh Vongsay, Vice President and General Secretary of the Lao Bodybuilding Federation. They were greeted by Mrs. Phoutsavath Vongphachan, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Sports, Mr. Bounma Thammavong, Deputy Director General of the Department of High-Performance Sports, federation executives, family members, local fans, and media representatives.
The championship, held from September 22-28, 2026, featured competitors from 44 nations. The Lao team, consisting of seven athletes, made a significant impact by winning three gold medals and three silver medals.
In an interview at the airport, Mr. Khamphaphaivanh expressed great pride in the team’s historic success. He also
announced that Laos is fully prepared to host the upcoming World Championships. The country aims to field a team of over 30 athletes and is encouraging the Lao public to come out and support the national team during the event.
