Laguna police rounds up 789 suspects in May

CALAMBA CITY: The Laguna Provincial Police Office’s (LPPO) latest tally shows that its operatives made a total of 789 arrests during the entire month of May.

Col. Gauvin Mel Unos, acting LPPO director, told reporters on Tuesday that law enforcers in this province have been steadfast in trying to capture drug traffickers and getting their poisonous product off the streets.

He said lawmen managed to arrest 267 drug suspects while conducting a barrage of anti-narcotics operations last month.

During this string of separate operations, some 503.56 grams of shabu, with an estimated street value of PHP3.43 million, was confiscated.

He categorized 17 suspects as high value individuals (HVI) and 250 others as street level individuals (SLI) according to the Philippine National Police’s classification of drug offenders.

“The successful operations of the Laguna PNP against criminality are the result of cooperation between the police and the people,” he added.

Unos also reported that 79 alleged ‘bookies’ or collecto
rs for illegal numbers games, and 248 other individuals supposedly involved in various forms of illegal gambling were also arrested.

Moreover, he said 43 individuals in the province’s ‘most wanted’ list, and an additional 135 other individuals with standing arrest warrants were also rounded up.

Police operatives also arrested 17 suspects and confiscated 47 guns as part of the LPPO’s campaign against loose firearms last month, Unos added.
