La Salle, Ateneo renew rivalry in V-League

MANILA: De La Salle University and Ateneo will renew their rivalry on Sunday when they square off at noon in the 2024 V-League Men’s Collegiate Challenge at Paco Arena in Manila.

The unbeaten Green Spikers hope to keep their momentum against the Blue Eagles, who are out to improve their 1-2 record.

La Salle notched its third straight win at the expense of Emilio Aguinaldo College, 25-15, 25-22, 25-21, on Wednesday with Joshua Magalaman scoring 13 points on 10 attacks and three blocks.

Ateneo, on the other hand, bowed to Letran, 22-25, 22-25, 16-25, on Aug. 11.

‘Alam ko naman na handa ‘yung team eh. So pag-aralan lang namin kung ano ‘yung naging strength nila sa previous games nila. At the same time, ika-counter na lang namin (I know that the team is ready, so let’s just study what was their strength in their previous games and at the same time, we’ll just counter),” La Salle head coach Jose Roque said.

Meanwhile, University of Santo Tomas (1-2) will face Perpetual Help (2-1) at 2 p.m.

The Golden Spikers
, who pulled off a 28-26, 20-25, 25-23, 26-24 victory over the National University Bulldogs on Aug. 11, will depend on Jan Julian Macam and Rey Miguel de Vega.

will banner the Altas, who rallied past the Far Eastern University Tamaraws, 23-25, 15-25, 26-24, 25-21, 15-6, on Wednesday.

‘We always have five sets [against Perpetual]. It will be an exciting match as well. The players will learn against them,’ said UST head coach Odjie Mamon.

In the lone women’s match, defending champion College of St. Benilde (1-2) will battle Letran (1-0) at 5 p.m.
