Japanese Culture Day Returns To Laos After 3 Year Wait

The Lao capital warmly welcomed Japanese Culture Day at the Parkson Mall last Saturady. This event was held for the first time in three years due to the COVID-19 restrictions. Many locals and residents from across generations renewed their familiarity with Japanese culture and the country via this event.

(traditional wrapping in cloth), shodo (Japanese calligraphy) and play with Japanese traditional toys under the experienced guidance of Japanese instructors and their Lao assistants. Those in attendance enjoyed beautiful yukata, playing traditional Japanese games, wrapping items in cloth furoshiki, learning to write their names in Japanese-style calligraphy, and making flowers, animals and a samurai’s armoured helmet from origami paper.

The Japanese Culture Day event was organised by the Embassy of Japan in the Lao PDR in cooperation with the Japan Foundation, Vientiane Liaison Office. The success of the event and appetite for cultural exchange after a long break is sure to lead to another opportunity like this in near future.
