Grab, MOVE IT upgrade driver apps with fatigue, overspeeding alerts

MANILA: Ridesharing and delivery service provider Grab and motorcycle taxi service provider MOVE IT have upgraded their mobile applications (apps) to provide fatigue nudge and overspeeding alerts for their drivers as part of their road safety program.

In a statement Thursday, Grab said the “fatigue nudge” feature monitors the driver’s active online hours and ensures they take necessary breaks.

‘The Fatigue Nudge reminds driver-partners to rest when they exceed the recommended online threshold,’ it said.

The feature will be available on both apps this month.

Meanwhile, the real-time overspeeding alert enhances road safety by encouraging drivers to adhere to speed limits.

‘Leveraging the accuracy and precision of GrabMaps, this Overspeeding Alert displays the vehicle’s speed about the road’s speed limit and turns the speed meter red upon exceeding it – urging the driver to change its pace,’ it said.

Both features have been launched as part of the Drive Safe: Takbong Swabe, Safe Palagi (smooth driving, alw
ays safe) road safety training program with the Philippine National Police, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority and CEMEX.

Through a workshop led by CEMEX, drivers and riders were taught to maintain safe distances when driving near large vehicles and identify blind spots in such vehicles.

Transport authorities also gave an educational refresher on traffic rules and regulations to ensure that drivers understand their responsibilities on the road.

‘The goal is to ensure safety, efficiency, and fairness on roads and highways, creating a more informed and cautious driving community,’ it said.

Both companies partnered with the police through the creation of an emergency SOS button within both apps, allowing users a direct line to government authority hotlines for access to emergency assistance when needed.

The program is part of Grab and MOVE IT’s celebration of Road Safety Month.
