Vientiane: A new initiative to provide free cleft surgeries for underprivileged patients in Laos has been launched by the Lancang-Mekong Development Foundation. This project, which began in 2026, is a collaborative effort involving Mahosot Hospital in the Lao PDR and the 'Mother's Smile' Charity Organisation from China.
According to Lao News Agency, the programme aims to offer free medical treatments, including surgeries for cleft lip, cleft palate, and other related reconstructive procedures, to disadvantaged individuals who lack access to specialised healthcare services. This initiative is expected to significantly enhance the quality of life and rebuild confidence in children and families affected by cleft conditions.
Registration for this free surgery programme is currently open and will continue until 20 November 2026. Interested individuals can reach out for more information or to register by contacting the hotlines at 020 28 182 273, 020 77 310 443, or 020 55 234 976. The organisers are hopeful that the project will make a meaningful impact on the lives of those in need.
