Food, Water, Tents Primary Needs of 26K Displaced Cebu Families

Cebu: A total of 209,972 families (372,513 individuals) in Cebu province were affected by the magnitude 6.9 earthquake on Sept. 30, according to Situation Report No. 11 on Sunday morning. Of the total, 26,140 families (5,270 individuals) were displaced. Their priority needs are food and potable water; modular tents and shelter materials; hygiene kits and medical supplies; and water tankers and generators.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Provincial Health Office has deployed WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) facilities, along with nutrition and medical assistance. The Emergency Operations Center at the capitol is open 24 hours. There were also 71 confirmed fatalities, three missing and 592 injured. Heavily affected areas include Bogo City, Medellin, San Remigio, Daanbantayan, Sogod, and Borbon. Other municipalities with reported damage were Tabogon, Tabuelan, Tuburan, Bantayan, Sta. Fe, Catmon, Carmen, San Francisco, and Madridejos.

Partial and total damage to roads and bridges were reported in Daanbantayan, Tabogon, and Borbon, while Bogo City Hall, Daanbantayan Municipal Building, and multiple schools and churches sustained severe damage. Thousands of residential houses collapsed or were partially damaged in northern Cebu, and sinkholes and fissures were found in Medellin, Borbon, and San Remigio.

Power was 99 percent restored at the barangay level, while most telecommunication services were already functioning as of posting time. Operations remained suspended at Hagnaya, Pulangbato, and Bantayan ports pending safety checks. Face-to-face classes are suspended in all levels in at least 10 northern local government units until further notice. Some suspended classes only on the day after the earthquake and have been conducting online classes since then.

As of Sunday morning's data, in-kind donations worth PHP7.9 million and PHP66.4 million cash donations have been received. There is a continuous distribution of relief goods to quake epicenter Bogo, San Remigio, Medellin, Daanbantayan, Sogod, Tabogon, and Borbon. Relief packs were also being airlifted to Carnaza Island in Daanbantayan by the Philippine Air Force. To facilitate faster and safer drop-offs, the provincial government opened a donation hub at Danao City Boardwalk, where provincial teams will handle sorting and transport to the affected areas.
