MANILA: Filipinos living or visiting Lebanon can call or send messages to their loved ones for free through a promo offered by Filipino telecommunications provider Globe Telecom, Inc. (Globe) amid increasing unrest in the Middle East.
In a statement Monday, Globe said its postpaid users would be offered roaming credits while prepaid Globe and TM users would be given free load to make calls and send texts to all networks.
‘Globe and TM customers need to simply connect to roaming partners Alfa and MTC Touch to use call and text services. A confirmation message will be sent to Globe Prepaid and TM customers advising them that the free load has been seeded, while Postpaid customers will see the bill adjustment for services used in Lebanon in their succeeding bills,’ it said.
Paula Rivera-Castillo, head of Globe International Business, said the promo is meant to give Filipinos in Lebanon and their families back in the Philippines some peace of mind.
‘We know that in times of uncertainty, it’s important to be c
onnected with loved ones. As Filipinos in Lebanon deal with worsening unrest in the area, Globe is providing them a free and open line home,’ Castillo said.
To make a call while overseas, mobile users using Filipino SIM cards should dial ‘+’ plus country code, area code, and telephone number (e.g. +63773101212) or dial ‘+’ plus country code and mobile number (e.g. +639171234567).
On the other hand, mobile users can send an SMS by typing ‘+’ plus the country code and mobile number in the address bar.
Several countries have called on their nationals to fly out of Lebanon amid fears of worsening conflict following the assassination of Hamas leaders, with Iran blaming Israel and vowing revenge.
Western officials fear that Iran-backed militia Hezbollah based in Lebanon could play a key role in any retaliation, which in turn could spark an Israeli response.
