Pakse: A 15-day English training course aimed at improving communication skills among civil servants officially opened on May 4, 2026, in Pakse.
According to Lao News Agency, the program is organized by the Embassy of Singapore to the Lao PDR in partnership with the Champasak Provincial Department of Foreign Affairs. The opening ceremony was attended by Vishun Keokhamphuy, Head of the Champasak Provincial Department of Foreign Affairs, and Joanna Pee, a representative from the Singapore Embassy, along with instructors and trainees from provincial departments, nine districts, and Pakse City.
Officials say the training is designed to strengthen English proficiency among government staff at basic to intermediate levels. The course focuses on practical communication skills, including listening, speaking, reading, and writing. According to organizers, the curriculum follows the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages at the A1 level, providing a structured foundation for language development.
Speaking at the event, Vishun Keokhamphuy said the program is part of a broader effort to support socio-economic development and improve the capacity of civil servants in an increasingly globalized environment. Organizers say the training will also help participants develop negotiation and communication skills needed to engage with international partners.
The program is expected to enable civil servants to play a more active role in sharing information, promoting trade and investment, and supporting tourism development across Lao PDR. Officials add that strengthening language skills is key to unlocking new opportunities and advancing national development priorities.
