Duterte Youth asks Comelec to bar P3PWD from joining 2025 polls

MANILA: The Duty to Energize the Republic through the Enlightenment of the Youth (Duterte Youth) partly-list on Monday asked the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to disallow the Komunidad ng Pamilya, Pasyente at Persons with Disabilities (P3PWD) party-list from joining next year’s midterm polls.

In a 14-page petition to deny due course filed before the Comelec, the Duterte Youth represented by its leader Ronald Cardema said the P3PWD party-list, represented by former Comelec commissioner Rowena Guanzon, failed to comply with the deadline for the filing of its Manifesation of Intent to Participate (MIP).

“The Respondent (P3PWD) filed its MIP on January 09, 2024, the second week of January, or 11 days after the December 29, 2023 deadline,” it said.

The petitioner also cited the statement of Comelec on Jan. 10, on the list of 106 party-lists that have their MIPs on time, where the respondent was not included.

During her term as poll body commissioner, Guanzon questioned Cardema’s inclusion in the list of Du
terte Youth’s nominees during the 2019 polls.

On the other hand, Cardema questioned the approval of Guanzon as a substitute nominee of the P3PWD in the 2022 polls.
