DSWD reintegration program helps trafficking victims regain normalcy

MANILA: Trafficking victims will continue to receive government support services through the Recovery and Reintegration Program for Trafficked Persons (RRPTP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

The RRPTP is designed to ensure the victims’ immediate recovery and reintegration into mainstream society, DSWD Assistant Secretary for Legislative Affairs Irene Dumlao said in a news release on Friday.

Last year, she said the DSWD assisted 1,900 victims and survivors of different cases of trafficking, forced labor, sexual exploitation, prostitution, slavery, adoption, pornography, removal/sale of organs, illegal recruitment, trafficking, repatriation, involuntary servitude, and drug trafficking, among others.

‘This program underscores the DSWD’s unwavering commitment to the recovery and reintegration of victims and survivors of trafficking, as well as in the protection of their rights and promotion of their well-being,’ Dumlao said.

The RRPTP provides a comprehensive package of services, i
ncluding temporary shelter, psycho-social counselling, skills training, and various forms of assistance such as transportation, financial, medical, and educational.

Whenever necessary, the DSWD also refers them to concerned agencies for other interventions and support services.

Dumlao called on all government partners and civil society organizations to continue fighting all forms of trafficking in person.

The DSWD is the co-chair of the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking.
