Deputy Prime Minister of Laos Engages with Yunnan Deputy Governor During Strategic Visit

Vientiane: Deputy Prime Minister of the Lao PDR, Mr. Saleumsay Kommasith, welcomed Mr. Xi Hao, the Deputy Governor of Yunnan Province, China, along with his delegation, during their official visit to Laos from September 23 to 26, 2025. The meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s Office on September 24, was aimed at reinforcing the strategic partnership between Laos and China.

According to Lao News Agency, the Deputy Prime Minister expressed his pleasure in hosting the Deputy Governor, congratulating him on his recent appointment in February. He emphasized the robust partnership between the two nations, rooted in the ‘Four Goods’ principles and the shared destiny community concept. The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the cooperative efforts in infrastructure and human resource development, which have been beneficial for both countries.

Furthermore, the Deputy Prime Minister urged continued progress on bilateral projects, such as leveraging the Laos-China railway and upgrading border checkpoints to enhance tr
ade and travel. He also advocated for the approval of the Boten-Vientiane expressway project, aiming for its completion by 2030, and emphasized the importance of development plans along the railway corridor. The Deputy Prime Minister encouraged increased investment and tourism from Chinese businesspeople, especially those from Yunnan, to Laos.

In response, Mr. Xi Hao expressed his gratitude for the warm reception by the Deputy Prime Minister and Lao authorities. He reiterated Yunnan’s dedication to strengthening cooperative relations, focusing on cultural and tourism exchanges, and ensuring the successful implementation of Lao-China cooperative projects.
