DCPO collects P1.2-M fines from motorcycle violators in weeklong op

DAVAO: The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) collected some PHP1.2 million in fines for various motorcycle violations during a series of operations from July 21 to July 27.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, DCPO acting chief Col. Hansel Marantan said the enforcement of the Comprehensive Transport and Traffic Code of Davao City resulted in 606 operations and the issuance of 1,051 citation tickets, leading to a collection of PHP570,600 in fines.

At least 406 operations related to Republic Act 4136, or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, also led to the issuance of 193 temporary operator’s permits (TOPs) and the collection of PHP433,500 in fines.

‘The Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) and 19 police stations continue their operations on all thoroughfares to ensure the safety of motorists and pedestrians. These efforts have successfully targeted ‘bora-bora’ (modified muffler) and other nuisance motorcycles,’ Marantan said.

Under the Speed Limit Ordinance, DCPO-TEU issued 172 citation tickets, resulting in fines
of PHP172,000.

Marantan said their other operational units had issued six citation tickets, resulting in PHP3,000 fines.

The “No Helmet, No Travel” operation also led to 54 apprehensions and PHP27,000 in fines, while the “No Plate, No Travel” operation resulted in four apprehensions and PHP 2,000 in fines.

‘The issuance of TOPs and citation tickets to all violators proves that there are still individuals who do not abide by the rules and regulations while on the roads,’ Marantan said.

He urged all motorists to respect and adhere to local and national traffic laws to avoid inconvenience and accidents.
