DAVAO CITY: The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) is collating the necessary documents for the approval of the financial assistance to be given to areas hit by typhoon Carina in the National Capital Region.
In an interview on Thursday, CDRRMO chief Alfredo Baloran said the declaration of a state of calamity in the affected areas is among the documents needed for financial assistance.
“It has been the practice of the city government to extend assistance to the affected local government units (LGUs). Whether they ask for it or not, Davao City voluntarily extends support to the LGUs that are hit by any calamity,” Baloran said.
He said once they had completed the necessary documents, they would present them to the City Budget and City Administrator’s offices for proper coordination.
‘The disaster council will meet to decide and approve the amount. Then, it will be referred to the Sangguniang Panlungsod for approval to use the city’s calamity fund to extend assistance to the affected
areas,’ he said.
Last week, typhoon Carina brought heavy rainfall in Metro Manila and nearby provinces, flooding the capital region.
In February this year, the city government also extended PHP6.1 million from its quick response fund to provide financial assistance to 15 LGUs in the regions of Davao and Caraga that were affected by disasters.
During that time, the provinces of Davao de Oro and Davao del Norte each got PHP1 million in financial aid.
In Davao Oriental, the towns of Lupon, Cateel, and Tarragona also got PHP300,000 each.
Four towns in Agusan del Sur province- Santa Josefa, Veruela, Loreto, and Bunawan- also got the same amount each.
