Deputy Minister and Deputy Head of Prime Minister’s Office Thipphakone Chanthavongsa has said that the suspension of the use of Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccine following unexpected side effects was baseless.
A facebook post falsely claiming Champassak Province has suspended administering Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccine to those younger than 60 years after many people, mostly among people in their twenties, developed unexpected side effects after being vaccinated went viral yesterday.
“After asking relevant authorities, we have found that such news is baseless. Therefore the administration of J&J Covid vaccine in Champassak still continues as usual with priority given to those people aged 60 and above, those with underlying medical conditions, those completing 14-day mandatory quarantine at quarantine centres and frontline workers who are at risk of catching Covid-19,” said Ms Thipphakone.
“Besides to getting vaccinated with Covid vaccine, all of us need to raise our responsibility and strictly follow the anti-covid-19 measures of the National Taskforce for Covid-19 Prevention and Control thus preventing the virus from infecting family, friends, loved ones and communities,” said Ms Thipphakone Chanthavongsa who is also Deputy Chairwoman of the National Taskforce Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control.
The National Taskforce Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control has recorded 250 new Covid-19 cases nationwide over the past twenty-four hours with 237 cases classified as imported infections and 13 cases as local transmissions.
The local transmissions of Covid-19 included 12 cases in Vientiane, four each in Savannakhet and Bokeo, and one in Luang Namtha.
Of the imported cases, 78 cases were recorded in Vientiane, 63 in Savannakhet, 48 in Champassak, 30 in Khammuan, 16 in Saravan, and two in Vientiane (province).
