MANILA: The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) on Friday announced that rebooking fees for airline passengers affected by Mt. Kanlaon’s eruption will be waived.
CAAP spokesperson Eric Apolonio made the assurance in a radio program hosted by Senate Majority Leader Francis Tolentino.
He said help desks were set up at airports to assist passengers in rebooking their flights without any charges.
Tolentino welcomed the ‘good news,’ as he emphasized the importance of promptly informing affected passengers about the waiver.
‘Ituloy lang natin yung no rebooking fees, yung walang penalty (Let’s continue the no rebooking fees, and no penalty,’ he said.
“Salamat sa CAAP sa mabilis na pag-aksyon. ‘Wag na natin dagdagan pa ang mga pasakit sa mga naapektuhan ng pagputok ng Mt. Kanlaon (Thanks to CAAP for the quick action. Let’s not add to the burden of those affected by the eruption of Mt. Kanlaon),” he said.
After Kanlaon’s eruption on June 3, CAAP issued a Notice to Airmen advising all airline compa
nies to avoid flying near the volcano, or above 17,000 feet above sea level.
Around 74 domestic flights at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and various domestic hubs were cancelled the morning of June 4 due to the presence of volcanic ash in the atmosphere near Kanlaon.
