C. Visayas leads day 2 of Palaro’s medal standing; NCR ranks 2nd

CEBU CITY: Central Visayas region bagged 38 medals so far, leading 16 other regions during the second day of the Palarong Pambansa here.

As of noon Friday, Central Visayas student-athletes won 13 gold, 19 silver, and six bronze medals, followed by the National Capital Region with 15 gold, eight silver and 12 bronze medals.

Although the Calabarzon region (Region 4) ranked third on the third day of the national game, it collected the highest number of gold so far at 19, and only eight silver and seven bronze.

Davao region scored 33 medals with 10 gold, 13 silver, and 10 bronze, followed by Western Visayas with 10 gold, eight silver, and 13 bronze. The Soccsksargen region grabbed 21 medals with five gold, seven silver, and nine bronze.

The other regions collected less than 20 medals.

Leading Central Visayas region’s gold medal haul was the 17-year-old runner from Lapu-Lapu City, Asia Paraase who won the Palaro’s first gold medal early Thursday morning after ruling the 3,000-meter secondary girls’ run at the
Cebu City Sports Center track oval.

Apart from Paraase, other gold medalists from the region included Cebu’s pride Arnis player Nathaniel Abing and chess players Kristina Concepcion Belano and Edelyn Vosotros.

Vosotros and Belano of the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters delivered two gold medals.

Vosotros earned two golds for finishing with a perfect seven points in the blitz category and the other when paired with Belano in the team event with 12 points.
