Buy-bust yields P2.7-M shabu in Camarines Sur

LEGAZPI CITY: The Police Regional Office (PRO)-5 (Bicol) reported on Monday the arrest of a high-value individual and the seizure of PHP2.7 million worth of shabu in a buy-bust in Nabua, Camarines Sur, on Sunday.

Lt. Col. Malu Calubaquib, PRO5 spokesperson, identified the suspect as “Ala,” 33, and a resident of the same town.

“The suspect sold shabu to a police poseur-buyer. In his possession and control were eight heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing suspected shabu, weighing 400 grams,” Calubaquib said.

She said the operation was conducted by the personnel of Nabua Municipal Police Station and Camarines Sur Provincial Police Drug Enforcement Unit, in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Regional Office.

“The suspect was informed of his rights, and the documentation and marking of the evidence were conducted in the presence of mandatory witnesses. ‘Ala’ will face charges for violating Republic Act No. 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002,” sh
e said.

The suspect is now under the custody of Nabua police for proper disposition.

In a statement, PRO5 Regional Director Brig. Gen. Andre Dizon said the operation is a testament to the relentless efforts of the Bicol police to apprehend those involved in the distribution of illegal drugs in the region.

“PRO5, in partnership with various government agencies, continues to intensify anti-drug campaigns by conducting thorough intelligence operations and community outreach programs to educate the public on the dangers of drug abuse. We also collaborate with local government units to support drug-dependent rehabilitation programs,” he said.
