The city government of Borongan in Eastern Samar will launch by September a digital platform designed to enhance the delivery of healthcare services.
Identified as one of the initiatives under the Smart and Sustainable Cities Program, the local government will come up with a “comprehensive patient database, seamlessly connecting medical needs” with city social services, the “Libreng Medisina” (free medicine) program, and the soon-to-open city infirmary’s laboratory and x-ray services.
“With this system, Borongan residents will have their medical records readily accessible at any rural health unit in the city, a crucial step in ensuring continuity of care. These records can be printed or digitally sent to other healthcare facilities, when necessary,” said city information office chief and Smart City focal person Rupert Ambil II, in a phone interview Thursday.
The digital platform is being developed through collaboration between the local government, Eastern Samar State University, and the Department of Sci
ence and Technology.
Ambil said one of the platform’s standout features is its integration with the pharmacy inventory system.
“Rural health unit doctors will have real-time access to the availability of medicines during patient consultations, with the system automatically alerting the nearest pharmacy for the required medications. Should laboratory services be needed, the platform will also ensure that patient requirements are promptly forwarded to the city infirmary,” he added.
This innovative system will significantly ease the process of availing healthcare services in Borongan, aligning with the city government’s priority to make medical services more accessible to all Borongan residents.
