Batangueño artists to raise funds for ‘Carina’ victims

BATANGAS CITY: A group of Batangueño artists will hold a week-long exhibit to raise funds for victims of Super Typhoon Carina in the province.

In an interview on Thursday, BAtangueñong Grupo sa SIning at Kultura (BAGSIK) president Remo Valenton said the exhibit will run from Aug. 4-10 at the Creative Space Art Gallery, Makati Square in Makati City.

‘While we want to showcase (in Metro Manila) the vibrant and dynamic works of our local artists in Batangas, we also want to divert our charity event to the benefit of flood victims that hit the province recently like the family of those who died in Agoncillo town due to landslide,’ he told the Philippine News Agency.

Valenton said the exhibit marks the beginning of a series of similar activities featuring Batangas art that will be staged in different cities and provinces of the country.

Members of BAGSIK, the province’s oldest art group, are already finalizing their engagements in the Angono town in Rizal, Manila, and Quezon City, among others.

Likewise, he s
aid it is in response to the provincial government’s call to grow and develop art tourism in the province and in places where Batangueños can also be found.

A portion of the proceeds will also go to art workshops the group is also hosting to teach art-inclined children in different towns, according to him.

Titled “Pista”, Valenton said the upcoming exhibit this weekend aims to ‘celebrate culture, creativity, and community, reflecting the rich tapestry of our shared heritage through various forms of visual art.’
