Ankara: The Turkish Radio and Television (TRT) Academy, in collaboration with the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) and the ASEAN Secretariat, organized a Social Media and Digital Journalism training in Ankara, Turkiye from April 14-18, 2025. This event marked the first effort under the ASEAN-Turkiye partnership aimed at enhancing capacity building for media professionals from ASEAN member states and Timor-Leste.

According to Lao News Agency, the training was conducted by renowned Turkish media specialists and focused on various aspects of modern media practices, including social media and digital journalism, mobile journalism (MoJo), digital media analysis, content editing, and marketing. Participants were engaged in hands-on practical sessions, equipping them with essential tools to improve information dissemination and digital storytelling in their respective countries.

A representative from the ASEAN Secretariat expressed enthusiasm about the program, stating, ‘I learned a lot from the training and exchanged ideas with fellow journalists. It’s clear that everyone found it beneficial. From the ASEAN Secretariat’s perspective, we hope this initiative continues in the future.’

Kate Australia, one of the ten journalists from ASEAN, highlighted the training’s timeliness, especially with the upcoming elections in the Philippines. ‘The lessons are incredibly valuable, particularly for social media management. With elections approaching, accurate and efficient information dissemination is crucial. I will definitely apply what I’ve learned and share this knowledge with my colleagues.’
