Vientiane:The Malaysia Travel and Education Fair 2026 provided attendees with a chance to explore various travel packages and gather valuable information on education opportunities, aiming to assist visitors in planning their next trip to Malaysia. A highlight of the event was a lucky draw offering special gifts to participants who booked travel packages or education programs with a deposit during the fair.
According to Lao News Agency, the lucky draw was conducted by Ms. Sordaly Chanthavong, Marketing Manager of Tourism Malaysia Vientiane, and featured prizes such as Malaysia-themed luggage, mascot teddy bears, hot-and-cold water bottles, and Malaysia-branded bags. Ms. Chanthavong emphasized the fair's role in enhancing tourism and educational cooperation between Malaysia and the Lao PDR.
She noted an increase in visitors booking travel packages and education programs in Malaysia, attributing this success to joint promotional activities between Tourism Malaysia and travel agencies. Tourism Malaysia also provides financial support to these agencies to promote Malaysia as a travel destination, encouraging more visitors from the Lao PDR.
In 2025, Malaysia welcomed 31,759 visitors from the Lao PDR, and from January to August 2026, there were 25,220 arrivals, a 24.02% increase over the same period in 2025. This growth highlights the continued interest in Malaysia as a travel destination and the potential for further tourism exchanges between the two nations.
The fair featured 16 interactive booths, including ten from Lao travel agencies such as Lao Worldwide Travel, Moukda Travel, and Vientiane Travel, among others. It served as a platform for visitors to discover new destinations, compare travel packages, and explore academic opportunities in Malaysia, fostering stronger ties between the people of Malaysia and the Lao PDR.
