Vientiane: The Lao Women's Union (LWU) and Trkiye have initiated discussions to expand cooperation aimed at improving livelihoods and strengthening opportunities for women, youth, and children.

According to Lao News Agency, the dialogue took place during a courtesy visit on August 24, 2026, when Mrs. Ali Vongnorbountham, President of the LWU, welcomed Ms. Oya Yazar, the Ambassador of the Republic of Trkiye to Laos. Mrs. Ali outlined the LWU's roles and responsibilities and expressed appreciation for Trkiye's previous support, which included equipment and financial assistance.

The discussions focused on several areas for future collaboration, such as training women to establish small and medium-sized enterprises and supporting development projects targeted at women, youth, and children. Additionally, there is a plan to provide vocational training for disadvantaged women in remote rural areas.

Moreover, the two parties explored the idea of monitoring students who benefited from scholarships provided by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) after completing their training. The meeting concluded with both sides expressing a commitment to explore other areas of mutual cooperation.
