PM Urges Paktha to Enhance Security, Poverty Reduction, and Development

Hanoi: Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone met with leaders and key officials of Paktha District, Bokeo Province, on August 20, 2026, calling for stronger efforts to maintain security, reduce poverty, and promote sustainable local development.

According to Lao News Agency, Paktha District Party Secretary Sali Vannasan reported that the district has maintained political stability and social order, with the economy growing 1.85% during the first six months of 2026. Budget revenue reached 58% of the annual target, while expenditure stood at 60%. Average annual per capita income was nearly 10 million kip.

The district comprises 34 villages across four subdistricts and has a population of 23,315, with 80% of its territory being mountainous. Currently, there are 879 poor households and more than 5,100 people living in poverty.

Prime Minister Sonexay urged authorities to enhance national defence and public security, grassroots political work, land management, and the prevention of illegal mining and forest exploitation.

He also emphasized the need for improved education to reduce school dropouts, implementation of policies promoting an independent and self-reliant economy, accelerated rural development and poverty reduction, and stronger preparedness for seasonal diseases and natural disasters.

The Prime Minister also provided financial assistance and essential goods to the district administration, local authorities, and military personnel serving in remote mountainous areas.
