Courts of Vietnamese, Cambodian, Lao Border Provinces Strengthen Judicial Cooperation

Phnom penh: The 8th conference of courts of border provinces of Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos took place in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, bringing together delegations led by Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court of Vietnam Nguyen Van Quang, President of the Supreme Court of Cambodia Chiv Keng, and Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court of Laos Phayvy Syboualypha.

According to Lao News Agency, the conference served as a platform for the judicial bodies of the three countries to exchange expertise, share experiences, and enhance coordination in addressing issues in border areas. Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court of Laos Phayvy Syboualypha emphasized the importance of reviewing cooperation outcomes over the last two years and mapping out more effective coordination strategies for the future.

Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court of Vietnam Nguyen Van Quang highlighted the conference's role as a vital forum for sharing experience, strengthening mutual trust, and contributing to the friendship among Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. He underscored the need for stronger coordination and mutual assistance among judicial bodies in response to the rise of transnational crimes, cyber-enabled crime, drug trafficking, and cross-border civil and commercial disputes.

The conference focused on four key areas: reviewing the implementation of the 2024 joint statement, sharing experiences in combating technology-enabled fraud, improving the settlement of cross-border civil and commercial disputes, and adjudicating cross-border drug trafficking cases. A joint communiqu© was signed, agreeing to bolster judicial cooperation.

On the sidelines, Nguyen Van Quang held meetings with his Lao and Cambodian counterparts to discuss cooperation outcomes and future plans. They agreed to continue delegation exchanges and enhance coordination to deepen ties and deliver more practical results.

Prior to the conference, Nguyen Van Quang paid a courtesy call on Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni, who praised the event as a valuable forum contributing to the building of peaceful and friendly borders. On August 15, Quang visited the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia, where he discussed Vietnam-Cambodia relations with Ambassador Nguyen Minh Vu, expressing hope for continued promotion of friendship and trust between the two nations.
