Lao President Expresses Sadness Over Death of Former Timor-Leste Leader

Vientiane: Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith has extended his condolences following the death of former Timor-Leste President Francisco Guterres LÂș Olo. In his message, President Thongloun expressed profound sadness over the loss, describing Guterres as a distinguished statesman who significantly contributed to Timor-Leste's independence struggle and its subsequent nation-building efforts.

According to Lao News Agency, President Thongloun highlighted the important role Guterres played in strengthening Timor-Leste's position in regional and international affairs. He also noted Guterres's contributions towards deepening the friendship and cooperation between Laos and Timor-Leste, which facilitated the steady development of bilateral relations.

President Thongloun remarked that the passing of the former head of state represents a great loss not only to the people of Timor-Leste but also to the Lao people, who have lost a close friend. On behalf of the Government and people of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, as well as in his personal capacity, President Thongloun extended his deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to President Jos© Ramos-Horta, the Government and people of Timor-Leste, and especially to the late leader's family, relatives, and friends during their time of mourning.
