Vientiane: The meeting, chaired by Minister of Public Security Vanthong Kongmany, reviewed progress in implementing measures under Prime Minister's Order No. 32 and related directives aimed at combating internet-based crimes and illegal online gambling.
According to Lao News Agency, authorities reported that from January 2026 to mid-June, law enforcement agencies successfully dismantled 20 electronic fraud operations and detained 2,652 suspects, including 780 women, representing 14 nationalities.
Looking ahead, the Ministry outlined a comprehensive strategy to strengthen the nationwide crackdown. Security agencies will increase inspections of entertainment venues, hotels, guesthouses, and rental properties to prevent criminal groups from using them as operational bases. Border controls and immigration monitoring will also be tightened to curb illegal entry and identify foreign nationals involved in cybercrime.
The government plans to expand public education campaigns to encourage citizens to recognize online scams, remain vigilant, and promptly report suspicious activities to authorities. Officials also stressed that organizers, financiers, and facilitators of cyber fraud schemes will face prosecution under Lao law.
The meeting underscored the government's determination to work toward the complete elimination of cyber scam networks in Laos while strengthening cooperation among law enforcement agencies and the public to safeguard national security and protect citizens from online fraud.
