Hanoi: General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee To Lam and his spouse Ngo Phuong Ly chaired an official welcome ceremony in Hanoi for General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee and President of the Lao PDR Thongloun Sisoulith and his spouse Naly Sisoulith. The event marked the beginning of a two-day state visit to Vietnam by the Lao leader.
According to Lao News Agency, the ceremony was conducted at the Presidential Palace with the highest protocol reserved for a head of state. Both General Secretaries stood on the honour platform as the national anthems of their respective countries were played. They reviewed the guard of honour of the Vietnam People's Army and participated in a ceremonial parade, followed by introductions of their high-level delegations.
The visit occurs at a significant time for both nations. Laos recently completed its 12th National Congress of the LPRP, leading to the re-election of Thongloun Sisoulith as General Secretary. Similarly, Vietnam successfully held its 14th National Congress of the CPV, resulting in the re-election of To Lam as General Secretary.
This visit underscores the high political trust, special bond, and close coordination between the two Parties and nations. It aims to enhance bilateral relations and provide strategic direction for comprehensive cooperation in the new phase of the bilateral relationship.
