Traffic Police Enhance Security Measures for 12th National Party Congress

Vientiane: As the Lao People's Revolutionary Party gears up for its 12th National Congress, various sectors and security forces are actively working to ensure a seamless and secure event.

According to Lao News Agency, the Traffic Police Force, operating under the General Police Department of the Ministry of Public Security, has strategically positioned personnel at the National Convention Center. These officers are tasked with vehicle parking management and ensuring smooth access for congress delegates.

Lieutenant Colonel Bounmee Luangbandit, who serves as the Deputy Director of the Traffic Police Office and Head of the National Convention Center Security Command, highlighted the focus on traffic flow and order maintenance at meeting venues and accommodations. From January 5, 2026, over 50 officers, supported by technical equipment, have been deployed to key locations, with full readiness reported. Coordination with the Vientiane Capital Traffic Police is also in place to manage traffic on major routes like Kaysone Phomvihane Road.

Lieutenant Colonel Bounmee Luangbandit urged road users to avoid main roads, particularly Kaysone Phomvihane Road, during the congress to facilitate smooth operations.

Lieutenant Colonel Khan Khamphonvilay, Head of the Internal Security Unit at the National Convention Center, underscored the crucial role of internal security forces in managing guest entrances and exits. He emphasized the importance of discipline and order within the venue, attributing it to the dedicated security personnel.

He affirmed that all specialized officers are ready to ensure the congress proceeds with absolute safety and discipline.
