Vientiane: The 12th National Congress of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party began this morning in Vientiane, aiming to assess the achievements of the 11th Party Congress under the leadership of the Party Central Committee over the past five years (2021-2025). The event, scheduled from January 6 to 8, provides a platform for participants to evaluate a draft political report and a draft report on the implementation of the 9th socio-economic development plan. The three-day congress will also chart a development roadmap and elect new Party leadership to guide the nation's tasks for the next five years (2025-2030).
According to Lao News Agency, Secretary General of the Party Central Committee, Mr. Thongloun Sisoulith, addressed the 835 delegates and 388 invited guests from state and private sectors in his opening remarks. The congress is deemed a significant political and historical event for both the Party and the nation.
The congress is centered around the theme 'Enhancing the Party's Strong Leadership, Proactively Building an Independent and Self-Reliant Economy, Continuing to Consolidate the People's Democratic Regime, and Advancing towards Socialism.'
Delegates are set to discuss and adopt four key documents: the third Political Programme of the Party, the Political Report of the 11th Central Committee, the 10th Five-Year National Socio-Economic Development Plan (2026-2030), and revised Party Statutes for the 12th tenure. These documents aim to define the Party's strategic direction, political and organizational line, and the country's socio-economic development pathway aligned with the realities of Lao PDR.
The Congress will also see the election of the 12th Central Committee, the Party's highest leading body for the forthcoming term.
