Manila: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is considering reintroducing the online registration system (e-registration) when voter sign-up resumes. Comelec Chairperson George Garcia revealed that the project had been implemented previously.

According to Philippines News Agency, Garcia noted that the online registration system will be intensified, and it is almost certain that the e-register will be implemented in the future. Although applicants will be able to submit their applications online, they will still need to visit local Comelec offices to complete the process by taking their oaths and submitting biometric data.

Garcia explained that the e-registration system will allow applicants to file their applications online and receive a schedule to visit the Comelec for oath-taking and capturing of pictures, fingerprints, and signatures. The online submission is intended to simplify the registration process, but the collection of biometric data remains a necessary step.

The reintroduction of the e-registration system is part of Comelec's efforts to provide the public with more options for registration and to expedite the overall process.
