Pasay city: The Bureau of Immigration (BI) on Monday announced plans to inaugurate its new 'smart' headquarters in Pasay City this September, aligning the event with the agency's anniversary celebrations. The BI, which will be celebrating its 85th anniversary, has highlighted this development as a significant milestone in its ongoing modernization efforts.

According to Philippines News Agency, BI spokesperson Dana Sandoval shared details about the inauguration during the agency's radio program. Sandoval emphasized the significance of the new headquarters, noting its modern design and advanced technological features. She referred to the facility as a 'smart building,' reflecting the bureau's commitment to integrating technology into its infrastructure.

The construction of the new headquarters is a part of BI's broader initiative to modernize its services, including enhancements in airport facilities across the nation. Sandoval mentioned that the bureau is utilizing various technologies to improve its services, particularly in the airports, with the installation of electronic gates or e-gates at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport being a prime example.

BI Deputy Spokesperson Melvin Mabulac added that New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) has pledged to support these efforts by purchasing additional e-gates for the airport. As of now, 21 e-gates have been installed at the arrival area, which is expected to streamline passenger processing and enhance overall efficiency.

The Bureau of Immigration was established by Commonwealth Act No. 613, also known as the Philippine Immigration Act, on September 3, 1940. The upcoming inauguration of the new headquarters marks another chapter in the agency's long history of service and innovation.
