Moscow: Russia and Laos have strengthened their bilateral relations by signing seven significant documents during the official visit of President Thongloun Sisoulith of the Lao People's Democratic Republic. The agreements cover a range of sectors, including nuclear cooperation, legal assistance, and education.
According to Lao News Agency, a pivotal component of the agreements is a roadmap for cooperation in the nuclear sector. This document was signed between the Russian nuclear corporation, Rosatom, and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Laos, marking a significant step in their collaboration on nuclear energy.
The package of agreements also includes a memorandum of cooperation signed by the head of the Russian Federal State Agency for Health and Consumer Rights, Anna Popova, and Lao Foreign Minister Thongsavanh Phomvihane. This memorandum aims to ensure the sanitary and epidemiological well-being of the population by facilitating joint research on infectious diseases, providing material and technical assistance to Laos, and training specialists. The initiative is designed to support a stable epidemiological situation in Russia and bolster Laos's capabilities in epidemic prevention.
Furthermore, the two nations have agreed on mutual legal assistance in criminal proceedings, which will enhance their legal collaboration. Other memorandums signed include those on mutual understanding in water resources protection, cooperation in secondary education, and agreements involving the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, the Lao National University, and the Institute of International Relations. These comprehensive agreements underscore the commitment of Russia and Laos to deepen their cooperation across multiple fields.
