9th National Assembly to Prioritize Economic, Legal Reforms

Vientiane: The 9th Ordinary Session of the 9th Legislature of the National Assembly is scheduled to occur from June 9 to 26. The session will focus on discussions related to economic recovery, financial policies, investment strategies, and legal reforms, as announced by officials on Thursday.

According to Lao News Agency, during a press briefing on June 5, Mrs. Amphayvone Lombounpheng, the Secretary of the National Assembly, detailed the session's agenda. This includes reports concerning the implementation of the socio-economic development plan, the state budget, and monetary policy for the first half of 2025, as well as strategies for the remainder of the year.

National Assembly members will engage in discussions regarding the draft 10th Five-Year National Socio-Economic Development Plan (2026-2030). They will evaluate initiatives such as electric power development policies, the Visit Laos Year campaign, and efforts to raise legal awareness across the country. Additionally, they will consider special policy proposals related to infrastructure and renovation projects.

The lawmakers will deliberate on five new draft laws covering cybersecurity, Social Welfare, Public Prosecutors, General Education, and Cultivation Laws. In parallel, amendments are planned for five existing laws, including those that govern Medicines and Medical Products, Income Tax, Signs, the Supreme People's Court, and Irrigation.

The National Assembly is expected to approve resolutions related to economic and budget performance for the first half of 2025 and plans for the second half. Other topics include energy sector policies, tourism development under the Visit Laos Year initiative, legal dissemination campaigns, and special construction policies. Additionally, a 10-year lawmaking roadmap (2026-2030) for the next Assembly term is set for approval.
