Cuba Declares Official Mourning for Late President Khamtay Siphandone

Havana: Cuban president has declared official mourning for the late General Khamtay Siphandone, former President of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party Central Committee and former President of the Lao PDR, from 6:00 a.m. on April 5 until midnight on April 6, 2025.

According to Lao News Agency, the announcement comes as a response to the passing of comrade Khamtay Siphandone, who served as the former Secretary General of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and former President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic. Throughout his political and revolutionary career, Khamtay Siphandone played a key role in fostering the relations of brotherhood, solidarity, and mutual trust between the Parties, Governments, and peoples of Cuba and Laos.

The declaration specifies that during the mourning period, the Lone Star Flag will be flown at half-mast on public buildings and military institutions. Cuban President Miguel D­az-Canel emphasized the profound impact of Khamtay Siphandone's contributions to the strengthening of international relations, which prompted the decision to observe the mourning period.
