Russia’s Public Catering Sector Sees 9% Growth in Early 2025

Moscow: The turnover of public catering establishments in Russia increased by 9% year on year in the first two months of 2025, reaching 589.4 billion rubles ($7 billion) in comparable prices, as reported by the Russian Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat).

According to Lao News Agency, the turnover witnessed an 8.6% rise in February 2025 compared to the previous year, amounting to 297.2 billion rubles ($3.5 billion). The statistical agency highlighted that the public catering turnover in February 2025 was 108.6% of the level recorded during the same period in the previous year. The cumulative turnover for January and February 2025 was reported at 589.4 billion rubles, or 109% in comparable prices.

The restaurant market turnover experienced a modest increase of 0.8% on a monthly basis in February 2025. In contrast, the turnover of Russian restaurants in February of the previous year had grown by 9% annually and by 1.6% monthly.

Under the Rosstat methodology, public catering turnover includes revenues from restaurants, cafes, and bars, as well as certain other businesses, such as public catering providers for social institutions or banquet services.
