Kuala Lumpur: The 47th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and related summits commenced in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, today, with a focus on the theme of Inclusivity and Sustainability.
According to Nam News Network, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who is serving as the chair of ASEAN 2025, addressed attendees at the opening ceremony. He highlighted the challenges posed by rising contestation and growing uncertainty, which not only affect ASEAN economies but also test the collective resolve of ASEAN members to maintain faith in cooperation.
Prime Minister Ibrahim emphasized that ASEAN’s strength is rooted in the conviction that respect and reason continue to bind its members together. Established in 1967, the ASEAN grouping includes Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and Timor-Leste.
