Phu Xuyen communal house is a 400-year-old architecture structure in Phu Chau commune, Ba Vi district, Hanoi). The communal house is dedicated to twin brothers Bui Don and Bui Chan who protected the locals against the Ming invaders in the 15th century. Phu Xuyen’s architectural style is different from other northern communal houses, with open architecture to all four directions, keeping the solemn altar in the middle of the house. The wooden parts of Phu Xuyen communal house are real artistic works that were delicately carved with cloud patterns, dragons flanking a pearl, and dragons and lions dancing. The communal house has preserved its architectural style and the quality of the wooden beams for more than 400 years, earning its title as the national historical – cultural relic in 1990. Visiting the communal house, tourists can experience northern rural tranquillity and admire the ancient architecture.
