3 Manila housing projects to benefit city hall employees

MANILA: The housing program of the city government of Manila will prioritize its employees.

At the flag-raising ceremony on Monday, Mayor Honey Lacuna assured city hall employees that the local government is looking after their welfare.

‘Sa pagkakataong ito, ang prayoridad natin ay ang ating mga empleyado. Hindi naman kaila sa inyo na hindi naman lahat ng empleyado ng lungsod ng Maynila ay may sarili nilang tahanan, kaya minabuti namin ngayon na mas bigyang pagpapahalaga ang sariling atin (This time, priorities will be given to our employees. We are all aware that not all city hall employees have their own home, that is why, we decided to prioritize them),’ Lacuna said.

She said this is her way of thanking the employees who have been responsive to the needs of Manila residents, particularly the informal settlers.

During the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, the city government started the housing projects for the informal settlers.

Four projects – Basecommunity, Tondominium 1 and 2 and Binondominium – hav
e since been completed and turned over to informal settler beneficiaries.

For this year, she said three housing projects are expected to be completed and turned over as well, with city hall employees on top of the list.

One of the three is the San Sebastian Residences, a 20-story, 243-unit residential tower located in Plaza del Carmen Street in Quiapo.

Each unit measures 40 square meters with two bedrooms, a toilet and bath, kitchen, and receiving area.

Before the year ends, two other housing projects, one along Pedro Gil Street and the other one in San Lazaro St., Sta. Cruz are also expected to be completed.

The Manila Urban Settlements Office assesses qualified beneficiaries.
