2nd Extraordinary Session of the 9th National Assembly Opens to Address Key National Issues

Vientiane: The 2nd Extraordinary Session of the 9th National Assembly opened on March 17 to discuss key national issues. The session, which is set to run until March 20, aims to address several critical matters essential for the nation’s governance and development.

According to Lao News Agency, the opening session was attended by National Assembly (NA) President Xaysomphone Phomvihane, President Thongloun Sisoulith, Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, along with representatives from across the country. The assembly will deliberate on a report detailing the improvement of public governance for 2025 and consider amendments to significant legal codes, including the Local Governance Law and the Civil Servant Law. Additionally, a government report on national administrative work will be in focus.

The session will also review an investigative report concerning special policies for investors in the industrial sector. NA members are set to consider five key agenda items: approval of the 2025 Public Governance Improv
ement Report, amendments to the Local Governance and Civil Servant Laws, review of the government’s national administrative work, consideration of the investigation report on special investment policies in the industrial sector, and discussion and adoption of the amended 2025 Constitution. This agenda was presented by NA Vice President Chaleun Yiapaoher.

The session’s aim is to tackle urgent national issues with an emphasis on quality, effectiveness, and tangible outcomes. As the chairman of the meeting, NA President Xaysomphone Phomvihane urged all relevant parties to collaborate effectively and provide necessary support and information for discussions. He encouraged NA members to exercise their democratic rights, enhance creativity, and demonstrate political responsibility by thoroughly analyzing agenda items and contributing constructive, visionary, and realistic solutions.

In an effort to facilitate public engagement, the Secretariat of the National Assembly has established a public complaints unit, all
owing citizens to submit their concerns through designated channels.
