243 Candidates Nationwide Registered for the 10th National Assembly Elections

Vientiane: On January 25, 2026, Ms. Sounthone Xayachack, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Vice President of the National Assembly, and member of the National Election Committee, held a press conference to officially announce the list of candidates for the 10th Legislature of the National Assembly (NA). According to Lao News Agency, a total of 243 candidates have been registered nationwide to contest the elections, with 175 seats to be filled. Among the candidates, 66 are women. The list includes 67 candidates from the central level (18 women) and 176 candidates from the local level (48 women). In addition, 37 members of the 9th Legislature are seeking re-election, including 15 women. The private sector is represented by one candidate from a state enterprise and nine candidates from private businesses, two of whom are women. The announcement is made in accordance with Article 11 of the Law on the Election of Members of the National Assembly and Provincial People's Councils (No. 58/NA, dated June 28, 2024) and Presidential Decree No. 338/PR, dated December 30, 2025. The candidate list was formally approved by the National Election Committee at its meeting on January 23, 2026. The distribution of candidates and available seats across the country's 18 constituencies is as follows: Constituency 1 (Vientiane Capital) has 25 candidates for 19 seats; Constituency 2 (Phongsaly) has 10 candidates for 7 seats; Constituency 3 (Luang Namtha) has 10 candidates for 7 seats; Constituency 4 (Oudomxay) has 11 candidates for 8 seats; Constituency 5 (Bokeo) has 10 candidates for 7 seats; Constituency 6 (Luang Prabang) has 14 candidates for 10 seats; Constituency 7 (Xayaboury) has 13 candidates for 9 seats; Constituency 8 (Houaphanh) has 10 candidates for 7 seats; Constituency 9 (Xieng Khuang) has 10 candidates for 7 seats; Constituency 10 (Vientiane Province) has 14 candidates for 10 seats; Constituency 11 (Bolikhamxay) has 10 candidates for 7 seats; Constituency 12 (Khammuan) has 14 candidates for 10 seats; Constituency 13 (Savannakhet) has 28 candidates for 21 seats; Constituency 14 (Saravane) has 14 candidates for 10 seats; Constituency 15 (Champasak) has 20 candidates for 15 seats; Constituency 16 (Sekong) has 10 candidates for 7 seats; Constituency 17 (Attapeu) has 10 candidates for 7 seats; and Constituency 18 (Xaysomboun) has 10 candidates for 7 seats.
