Vientiane:The Extraordinary Plenary Session of the 12th Central Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party wrapped up ahead of schedule after four days of discussions, chaired by General Secretary Thongloun Sisoulith, who is also the President of the Lao PDR.
According to Lao News Agency, the session focused on implementing directives and resolutions from the 12th Party Congress. Three resolutions were adopted, and guidance was provided on addressing illegal mineral extraction and managing unregistered vehicle imports.
General Secretary Thongloun highlighted the need for stronger action on pressing social issues, such as illegal firearms, drug trafficking, online scams, robbery, road accidents, and misinformation online. He also emphasized accelerating post-flood recovery efforts, particularly in restoring roads, irrigation, and agricultural areas, and prioritizing aid for flood-affected families.
In terms of economic and agricultural policies, Thongloun suggested easing living cost pressures and supporting farmers with seeds, technical aid, and market access for various crops. He underscored the importance of advancing the National Agenda on Rural Development and Poverty Alleviation with accountability and tangible results.
The session also called for enhanced governance and institutional discipline, promoting democratic centralism, collective leadership, and unity within Party organizations. Efforts against corruption and non-transparent practices were urged, along with strict actions against illegal natural resource exploitation.
Additionally, preparations were discussed for the 2026 political evaluations within the Party Central Committee and nationwide conferences to review grassroots Party development, rural progress, poverty reduction, and the implementation of the ‘Three Builds’ initiative.
In closing the session, Thongloun urged Central Committee members to display strong political commitment, tackle administrative obstacles, enhance oversight, and expedite the implementation of the 12th Party Congress goals.
